Full program notes
From baroque to 20th century, this program explores works for two violas that showcase the range and versatility of the instrument.
The viola is the closest string instrument to the human voice. Also, compared to the violin and cello it is an imperfect instrument, with no universal standard model—a trait that it also shares with humans.
From J.S. Bach to Frank Bridge listeners will become immersed in the very human world of viola chamber music.
Works:
Bach Cello Suite III (arr. for two violas)
W.F. Bach duets
Bridge Lament for two violas
Le Claire Sonata Op. 3 for two violins (arr. for two violas) —selected movements
