About

Danielle Seaman began playing violin at the age of 3 and piano at the age of 6. She is currently the Librarian at the Merit School of Music in Chicago. For the past two years, Danielle was a violinist and assistant orchestral librarian for the Civic Orchestra of Chicago while actively performing in other musical groups in the greater Chicago area including the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Arts Orchestra, and Camerata Chicago. While in the Civic Orchestra, she performed with world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma while also working with him in masterclasses and coachings. Danielle recently performed as a substitute section violinist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in May 2015 as part of the family concert series— Tchaikovsky Triumphs: CSO at Neuqua Valley High School.

In 2013, Danielle graduated from Northwestern University with a Master of Music in Violin Performance and Literature studying under Blair Milton. She received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance in 2011 from Wheaton College (IL) studying under Lee Joiner. Other significant teachers and musical mentors include Xiao-fu Zhou, Sharon Polifrone, Paul Zafer, and Richard Amoroso. Danielle became a certified Suzuki teacher in 2011 trained under Ann Montzka Smelser. She has taught private violin and piano lessons for the past 12 years. While a student, she worked for the Community School of the Arts in Wheaton, IL as an intern for Anita Arch and as a teacher aide for Sarah Lindquist's group classes and Con Fuoco Strings.

This past summer Danielle was chosen as a Violin Fellow for the Tanglewood Music Festival. In recent years, she has attended other festivals such as the National Orchestral Institute, Castleton Festival, and Kent Blossom Musical Festival. Danielle recently started the Flow Concert Series and Ayuda Quartet with some of her Civic Orchestra colleagues. This Chicago-based quartet desires to integrate classical music with other music genres and art forms in intimate settings as a means to revitalize the concert-going experience for audiences.

Danielle also enjoys reading, cooking, spending time outdoors, and loose leaf tea. She plays on a violin made for her in 2007 by Xiao-Wei Zhou, a Philadelphia-based Chinese violin maker. Her instrument is patterned after the famous violins of Guarneri del Gesu.
