Paula Karolak is a west coast based violist. Playing music since the age of three she routinely roots her musical narrative in humanistic phenomenology and her strong background in musicology helps her connect it to the cultural experience all while being a bad ass. Doing her undergraduate work in Los Angeles let Paula explore numerous musical styles and as a result she has shared the stage with such greats as Kenny Burrell, Haushka, John Cale, and John Williams to name a few. She has appeared as a chamber musician in the Dilijan Chamber Series, Musicians Guild Chamber Series and Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra. She has soloed with the UCLA philharmonic, SF Academy Orchestra and in 2015 she performed a solo set of contemporary works for the Carlsbad New Music festival. Paula is also an in demand session player and has recorded in studios all over California. Recent collaborations include Katie Day’s “By the Lake Side”, Tumbleweed Wanderers’ “Ghost” and Danny Clay’s “Stills.” After completing her MM at San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Paul Hersh and Jodi Levitz, Paula is focusing on orchestral studies and is a 2016/17 fellow at the SF Academy Orchestra.
