Brahms and Mendelssohn Trios!
This groupmuse is full
I didn't initially study music in college, but couldn't shake the music bug once I finished up. I went on to study and play music for 2 years in Italy at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and with the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, and completed my Master's in Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I play mostly classical repertoire, and greatly enjoy a variety of settings, from solo to orchestral to chamber, but also play many other genres - wherever a cello can fit in!
Traditional Repertoire
Solo: Any of the Bach Suites, Gaspar Cassado's Solo Suite for Cello, Zoltan Kodaly's Solo Suite for Cello, Mark Summer's Julie-O, Gyorgy Ligeti's Solo Suite for Cello, and others
Piano/Cello Duo: Any of the vast range of Cello Sonatas, from Schubert's Arpeggione to any of the Beethoven Sonatas, Chopin or Brahms. I enjoy smaller works too, transcribed song cycles, variations, or sets of folk tunes by Schumann or Tsintsadze, there is a vast body of work to draw on in this category!
Violin/Cello Duo: Z. Kodaly Duo, M. Ravel Duo, Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia, R. Gliere Huit Morceaux, E. Schulhoff Duo
String Trio: Beethoven Trios, Mozart Divertimenti, Schubert Trios, Dohnanyi are all good!
Piano Trio: Any from the Canon are wonderful, though I am partial to Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Dvorak, and Arensky's works - some more contemporary stuff like Cassado's trio and Schoenfield's Cafe Music are great too!
String Quartet - Here too the repertoire is vast, and I love all of it! Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn are heavy hitters here, but I love playing quartets by Mendelssohn, Schubert, Debussy and others too - so much to choose from.
Other bigger ensemble pieces, while played a little more rarely, are great fun - like Brahms' string quintets and sextets, Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence for String sextet, or any of the numerous Piano quartets and quintets by Dvorak, Schumann, Brahms and others.
