About

Leonard Ranallo is a guitarist and educator based in Philadelphia. He prides himself in his fluency in both classical and electric guitar, and is able to play in a multitude of styles and genres.

Ranallo began classical guitar study at the Amherst School of Guitar with Mir Ali in 2011. In 2012, Ranallo was awarded the Amherst Symphony Scholarship and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Musicians Scholarship to attend Oberlin Conservatory. In 2016, he received his Bachelors of Music in Classical Guitar Performance while studying under Stephen Aron. Ranallo has also participated in master classes with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, SoloDuo, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Rene Izquierdo, Marc Teicholz, Raphaella Smits, and Benjamin Verdery.

In the summer of 2012, Ranallo completed the Every Child Can course and received his Book 1 certification for Suzuki Guitar at the Greater Pittsburgh Suzuki Institute, PA, with teacher-trainer Andrea Cannon. From 2013-2015 on the summer faculty of the Amherst School of Guitar teaching both Suzuki and traditional lessons in individual and group settings. He has also taught for the Oberlin Secondary Lessons Department and was selected to be part of a program working with a talented special needs student funded by the Ohio Department of Education.

Only one year after beginning his classical guitar studies, Ranallo took First Prize at the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Young Musicians Scholarship, making his professional orchestral debut performing with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also won prizes at the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society Competition and the James Stroud All-Ohio Competition.

Ranallo has appeared as a featured young artist at the Classical Guitar Retreat in Scotland and the Sorrento Guitar Festival in Italy. In addition, he has performed as a participant at the Mannes Guitar Seminar and the GFA convention. In 2014, Ranallo was invited to be an adjudicator at the Rantucci Guitar Festival in Buffalo, New York.

Lenny is currently working as a freelance guitarist and running his private teaching studio.
