Yuma Uesaka (b. 1991) is a Japanese-American saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer known for his improvisational flexibility and his powerful sound in the NYC creative music scene. As an improviser-performer, Yuma has performed in venues such as The Jazz Gallery, Roulette, and National Sawdust, and has recorded for Pi Recordings (Anna Webber), 577 Records (Ocelot), and New Focus Recording (Colin Hinton). An alumnus of the University of Michigan, he studied improvisation under Geri Allen, Robert Hurst, and Andrew Bishop. Other non-school-affiliated teachers include Vasko Dukovski (clarinet) and Eric Wubbels (composition).
Traditional Repertoire
Original music coming from the tradition of creative music, Black American Music ("jazz"), 20th century western classical music, free improvisation, and more. Genre is a touchy subject for a lot of musicians in my community.
