Voice and piano
About
Soprano Catherine Hancock and pianist-composer Evan Fein have been friends and musical collaborators for nearly two decades, sharing a love of art song, musical storytelling, and repertoire both familiar and overlooked. Both graduates of The Juilliard School, they bring together backgrounds in opera, composition, and chamber music, with a particular enthusiasm for the intimacy and expressive possibilities of voice and piano. After years of collaborating on various projects, they are delighted to present their first full-length recital together.

An Evening of German and American Art Song
Join soprano Catherine Hancock and pianist Evan Fein for a journey through more than two centuries of art song, from the elegance and wit of the First Viennese School to the lyrical richness of 20th- and 21st-century American music.
The program begins with songs by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, offering a glimpse into the surprisingly intimate, playful, and expressive world of composers better known for their symphonies and sonatas, with a little Schubert for good measure.
The second half crosses the Atlantic for the evocative poetry and musical landscapes of Samuel Barber, concluding with two works by Evan Fein himself, including Pied Beauty, a setting of Gerard Manley Hopkins.
An intimate evening of beautiful music, wonderful poetry, and the particular magic of two musicians making music together.
