About

Rebecca Hass is an active performer, collaborative pianist, and educator in the Bay Area, CA. She has extensive experience collaborating with classical performers, groups, and movement artists, most recently working with Opera on Tap SF, Diablo Women’s Chorale, Bella Musica, and Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choirs.

Rebecca's interests extend to many types of music, including jazz, classical, and pop, but her biggest passion is Brazilian music. Her debut album of original compositions and arrangements in Brazilian styles, Florescer (Bloom), was described as “a refreshing take on instrumental Brazilian-inspired music”. She was also a longtime member of the Minneapolis Brazilian percussion group Batucada do Norte, and a founding member of the Modern Spark Trio, a piano trio with diverse repertoire.

In addition, Rebecca is a creative coach who helps musicians self-compassionately grow their creative practice, and also hosted the podcast Being a Whole Person.

Music

I play lots of Brazilian solo piano music from various traditions: choro, samba, forró, maracatu, bossa nova, jazz, etc. I play many originals in these styles, as well as works by Alessandro Penezzi, Léa Freire, Hermeto Pascoal, Amilton Godoy, Egberto Gismonti, João Bosco, Pixinguinha, Chico Buarque, Laercio de Freitas, Hercules Gomes, and more.

Optionally, I can play a program of original pieces that’s more diverse in genre, including Brazilian styles, jazz, mellow impressionistic pieces in the style of Debussy, and more fun, evocative miniatures.
