Please Join us for an early evening concert exploring the roots of the Danish String Quartet's local music tradition of Nordic folk music. Drawing from a similar inspiration to Wood Works, Mark O'Connor's Applachia Waltz utilizes musical influences from Scandinavian and Appalachian folk fiddling crafted in a classical music setting. We begin our program with other genres of folk music that are unique and may reflect a different, simpler time. We explore the works of pioneer Black American female composer Florence Price's miniature essays in counterpoint based off negro spirtuals. Also featured are five of Komitas Vartabed's Armenian dances. These melodies were collected from rural villages and act as a musical link between families of the Armenian diaspora and their home country.
