Cellist Brady Anderson received his Master of Music in Cello Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music after receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of California at Berkeley.
As an avid orchestral musician, he has played in the cello sections of several California orchestras, such as the Stockton Symphony, Monterey Symphony, and Fresno Philharmonic, and Indiana orchestras Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, and Columbus Philharmonic. He was principal cellist of the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Berkeley Chamber Orchestra, IU Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and Summer Philharmonic. Brady has played under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gustavo Dudamel, Marin Alsop, and Jakub Hruša.
Brady is also an accomplished soloist, having performed most of the standard cello concerto repertoire with orchestra. He received top prizes in numerous competitions, including American String Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association performance competitions. Brady was awarded Eisner Prize for musical achievement at Berkeley and was a recipient of the Janos Starker Scholarship at Indiana.
Having performed chamber music extensively, Brady has had the opportunity to collaborate with both faculty and colleagues across the country. He is also the cellist and a founding member of the Alden Trio and is currently interim cellist of the Thalea String Quartet. Brady studied chamber music under the guidance of Menahem Pressler, Jorja Fleezanis, Anne Epperson, Atar Arad, Paul Hersh, Ian Swensen, members of the Pacifica String Quartet, members of the Juilliard String Quartet, and many others.
Brady’s former teachers include Peter Stumpf, Jonathan Koh, and Irene Sharp. During his cello studies, Brady performed in master classes of Tamas Varga, Zuill Bailey, David Geber, Emilio Colon, Mark Votapek, Irene Sharp, Wendy Sharp, and the Alexander String Quartet. Brady enjoys performing many genres of music and has recorded with dozens of groups, including Nataly Dawn, Cyprus Hill, Jennifer Hudson, and he can be heard on the Grammy-nominated La Orquesta Sinfonietta album Canto America. Brady has also performed with hip-hop group Deltron 3030 at Rock the Bells 2012 and 2013, Stern Grove, and at the Fillmore in SF.
