Alexandria's Lyceum has had a colorful history. The masterpiece of Greek revival architecture was built in 1839 and had its first life as Alexandria's library (not to be confused with The Library of Alexandria, though the comparison beckons...). 25 years later, it served as a hospital during the Civil War. In the 1960's, it joined the National Register of Historic Places and since then, has been the city history museum of Alexandria. Well, we're so proud to say we're about to add another chapter to that storied life: The Lyceum will be home for our next Massivemuse!
The terrific ensemble Kassia Music - built of a string quartet and a piano - are putting together a blend of old music and new for the occasion to Massive in the grand style.
The program includes a piece written by the group's pianist Sam Post, a piano quintet called "Classical Neo-Classical", and then another work by a member of the group, a single movement piano quintet by Bernard Vallandingham.
The program will be anchored in the old with a classic by Sergei Prokofiev, one of the great geniuses of classical modernism (a term as oxymoronic as old news) -- his blistering and revelatory 2nd string quartet.
Tickets are $20, it's BYOB, and we can't wait to see you there!
What's the music?
Prokofiev: String Quartet no. 2
Vallandingham: Piano Quintet #1
Post: Classical/neo-Classical piano quintet

Dear all,
This is a reminder that, despite the fact that there will of course be chairs at tonight’s Massivemuse for those that need them, we kindly request that, if possible, you bring a floor cushion, yoga mat, picnic blanket, etc. so that we may get cozy on the floor, groupmumuse style. It’s just way more fun that way — promise. And don't forget to BYOB!
Also, online ticket sales close up at 5pm, but we will be selling at the door, so feel free to make that last-minute pitch to your friends!
Have such a blast!
Best,
Team Groupmuse

Hi all,
Some news: Due to the weather expected tonight that will likely make for unsafe road conditions, we’re going to reschedule the Massivemuse. Sorry about the inconvenience!
The rain date (or snow date, rather) will be Saturday April 6th.
All purchased tickets will automatically carry over to the new date, but if you wish to refund your tickets in full, you may of course do that.
Sorry once again about the change of plans. Better safe than sorry!
Stay warm and cozy tonight!
Best,
Team Groupmuse
