The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center needs no introduction. For decades, they've been in the business of making sure our Great City's appetite for world class chamber music is satisfied and, on Friday, November 8th, Groupmuse is invited along for the feast with a Night Out!
CMS is calling on the electrifying talents of the Schumann Quartet to deliver sounds of the sweetest and deepest variety --
We start with an underperformed Mozart masterpiece - his Adagio and Fugue in C Minor - written in the last years of his life and looking backward at the Baroque forms as his time in this realm drew to a close.
The centerpiece of the program is Alban Berg's Lyric Suite - for which the quartet will be joined by the brilliant soprano Tony Arnold (maybe not the most famous Soprano named Tony, but far more enchanting than Tony Soprano) and her meltingly beautiful voice. The piece is a monumental work that manifests Berg's orientation as perhaps the most Romantic of the modernists.
The finale is the absolutely joyous and rollicking String Quartet by the master of the Norwegian Romantic Edvard Grieg. By the time the last movement is over, you'll be dancing out of Lincoln Center, however deep and powerful your evening of sound and substance undoubtedly was.
Tickets typically average $55 or more, but we've got a stack for only $25 -- nearly 50% off! But supplies fly, so make your move!
What's the music?
